The DOE School Internship program is a joint service offering between the City University of New York (CUNY), and the New York City Department of Education's Division of Instructional and Informational Technology (DIIT).

The program enables NYC public schools to purchase an IT intern package in FAMIS. Interns perform tasks such as setting up computer hardware, installing software, maintaining classroom servers, and troubleshooting hardware and software problems in conjunction with the DOE Help Center. Expertise in information technology is a capacity that many schools lack. By providing schools with affordable, quality IT support, CISDD is helping schools acquire that capacity.

Representing 15 CUNY campuses, this program enables CUNY students to gain valuable hands-on experience in the IT field. The interns also receive invaluable training from experienced DOE staff in both a classroom setting and by shadowing a DOE tech in the field. Interns report directly to the school, but act as a liaison between the school and DOE IT staff. In many cases, the students receive course credit for their work. They also earn a wage of $12/hour.

The program is serving 140 schools for the 2009-2010 school year, a growth of 46% over last year. Despite tight school budgets, half of the schools enrolled in the program last year re-enrolled this year, as did about an equal proportion of interns. The program can meet the needs of all types of schools; almost half the schools enrolled are elementary schools, while another 30% are high schools. More than 75% of schools are located in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens.

CISDD first began supplying the DOE with interns in 2005. Since then, 17 interns have been hired by the DOE in both school-based and DOE Central positions.

CUNY interns provide support in the following areas:
